charmtrainee, STAB moves are moves that share a type with the pokemon using it. for example, empoleon would have STAB hydro pump since they are both water type. hope this helped. :)

I would really like to see both of these ideas implemented as it would not only make the battle system much more engaging, but it would also make the game seem a lot more like the real games.

except you don't need to have a certain amount of HP for STAB, it can be used any time. It's not really an ability, it's like a hidden mechanic of pokemon, like ev's and iv's. and stab gives a .5 damage boost, like say blissey uses hyper beam. that would be x+ x/2, and in this case, 150+ 75. so STAB hyper beam is 225 base power. :)
