I walked into the forest, and felt the leaves dapple along my pelt.
I loved the wild, but I loved my home, friends, and housefolk even more.
I woke up in my nest, a brown, soft, Twoleg thing. "Mizuki, come get your breakfast!"

After I had my breakfast of round, brown pebbles, I went through a flap into my Twoleg garden.
I looked up to see my best friend, Neko, jumping onto the boundary fence. "Been a while, Mizuki-San!" she mewed.
"Yeah, I know. My Twolegs took me to there other territory for a bit."
"Are you okay? You look... Off." I shook my head, and replied, "I just want to be in the wild ever since that trip..."

"You want to go in the wild? Don't you know there are vicious cats there?"
"Of course. I would never leave here, I have no friends in the wild." Neko stared at me.
"Mizuki, I'm not going to allow your dreams to be crushed just because of the other things here."
"Well what then?" I meowed, unhappily. "Maybe I can get Ricky-San to come with you!" Neko offered.

"That's dumb. Ricky-San's just a bossy old house cat. Why would he want to go to the wild?"
"Because, I hear him meow about it a lot. There's even a rumor throughout Twolegplace!"
"Whatever, Neko. Go ahead and ask if you want." Inside I was actually happy...
But why let my emotions show? It was getting dark, so I went back in my Twoleg den and slept in my nest.

I dreamed of the wild cats. And I was one of them. My golden coat shining, my blue eyes sparkling. I'm going to be a wild cat...

The first thing I had done when I woke up was jump onto Neko's fence.
The sun was rising slowly, making the bright lights in the sky disappear.
"I wonder what those lights are..." I meowed out loud to myself as the last one disappeared.
The flap to Neko's Twoleg den opened, and Neko dashed out at the sight of me.

"Hi, Mizuki-San!" she meowed as she jumped onto the fence. "I spoke to Ricky-San yesterday," she mewed.
"He told me that he's only coming because he knows his way around."
"Good... So when will we set off?" I asked. "Hey, yesterday you didn't even act like you wanted to go!"
"Just answer the question." I didn't want to talk about my emotions at the moment.
"Sunset. He told me that you should eat before you leave, too."

Sunset came, and I set off for Ricky's Twoleg den. It was near the alley, but I honestly didn't care.
Rats were everywhere, and I was lucky for all the rubbish laying around for me to avoid them.
Soon, I recognized Ricky's blue Twoleg den. "Ricky-San!" I called. A head popped out from a hole above.
"Watcha' want you-- Oh, it's only you, Mizuki-San." He went back in, and came out a hole near me.

"Alright, kit. Let's go." I was puzzled. "Go where?" I asked. "Towards where the sun sets."
I asked him no more. I had to trust him, or I'd never see the wild. We turned a couple times, passing by a Twoleg pond. After a while, I wondered if he actually knew where he was going. Suddenly, he stopped.
"Ricky-San," but he silenced me with a hiss. Soon I saw why we had stopped.

We were hiding behind a Twoleg den, many pairs of red eyes looking out through the Twoleg rubbish.
A chittering noise broke out, and they began moving towards us. "They've spotted us!" Ricky hissed.
Ricky dashed away down another alley, and I followed. One of the creatures chittered, trying to get me.
Another cat came running by, and there were more of the creatures trying to grab her shiny pelt.

"What are these things?!" I meowed over the loud chittering. "Raccoons!" Ricky-San hissed through gritted teeth. "They always search through Twoleg rubbish for shiny things. I never thought this--"
Ricky was cut off by another group of raccoons coming towards us. We were surrounded by the stone Twoleg dens around us. There was no way out. Is this the end?, I thought.

The raccoons edged closer... They chittered, and through the thick mass of them, I saw something...
The silver she-cat I had saw earlier was being carried away by them. These raccoons were tough.
I felt as if the world was coming down on me. Had I foolishly caused all this?
"Ricky, what do we do?" I yowled above all the noise. "Ricky?" I couldn't see him anymore.

I was circled by raccoons... I tried to fight them, but there were too many. Suddenly, a raccoon lashed out at me, and the world went black, infested with their chittering.

Neko's yowl exploded above the chittering. "Shimmer! Shimmer-San, where are you?"
Shimmer? Who's Shimmer?, I thought. Neko was fighting along side Ricky-San, fighting the battle more with hisses, stamping their paws against the ground. They're afraid of loud noises!
I staggered to my paws, feeling as if the world was battering it's paws against me.

I pranced around like a crazy cat, stamping my paws against the ground, meowing loudly.
Soon, the raccoons chittering turned to screamish squeals, and they fled like rats.
I counted them as they left; One, Five, Twelve, Twenty... About Twenty raccoons.
"There sure are a lot of raccoons around here," I grunted. I turned to the silver she-cat I'd saw earlier.

Neko ran over to her, stressing. "Oh, are you okay Shimmer-San?"
"Yes, I'm fine Neko." Neko looked at her sternly. "Neko-San."
"Right, right... So, who are you two?" meowed Shimmer, looking to me and Ricky-San.
Ricky returned her question. "Who are you, stranger?" Neko snorted in laughter.

"Oh, of course! This is my newest friend, Shimmer!" Newest... Friend? But I thought I was your friend!
"Hmph. Are you to coming as well?" Ricky-San asked in a stern manner.
Before Neko could answer, Shimmer shoved in front of her cheerfully, like a kit.
"Well, I'm coming! If I go back, those darned raccoons'll get me!"
Neko chuckled. "You speak funny. You're obviously not from Twolegplace."

"Twolegs? Oh, you mean No-furs?" Neko shook her head. "No, I mean Twolegs. What are No-furs?"
We began to run at a trot, following Ricky-San. "They look sorta like Twolegs."
Soon, the scenery changed, and I sniffed all these new things I was finding. "Hey, Ricky-San!" I meowed.
"What, kit?" I took one last sniff at the green strings before turning to him. "What are these?"

"That's grass, kit. Guess you've never heard of it, cooped up in Twolegplace." I raised my head.
I felt a warmth touch me, but when I tried to look at it, it hurt really bad. "What is that?"
"It's sunlight. The Twoleg dens are too big to see it most of the time." What else was invisible in Twolegplace? I felt like I was... Dumb. "I'm glad I left Twolegplace."

"Hey, Ricky-San? Are you coming, too?" Ricky snuffed. "I have to. My Twolegs left me."
"They what?!" Neko screeched, jumping up in astonishment. Twolegs leaving their cats? Never!
"Well, uh... Twolegs are, uh, dumb, sometimes." Oh, how that hurt my heart so badly.
"Yup. Just like they left me here," replied Shimmer. That... Could it be true? N-No...

"Shimmer's Twolegs left her here after flying in a Twoleg bird monster." Neko's pelt prickled.
"They put her in a Twoleg cage! In a monster!" Shimmer lowered her head, nodding sadly.
"Well, now we're not Twoleg cats," growled Ricky. "We're wild now... And it's free."
"Free from monsters, free from raccoons, free from Twoleg-vets..." And free from Twolegs...

"Let's rest in this ditch for tonight. It should be safe, since we're away from the Twolegplace."
Neko and Shimmer slept next to each other, Ricky-San slept next to a big, pointy stone.
Oh, how my heart broke. I've lost my friend, I've lost my Twolegs... And I've lost my heart.
