Mining - How should it be done? Any ideas?
I am thinking of implementing the mining feature.
So far, I have planned out this: * There are several pickaxes. The better the pickaxe, the faster/better you can mine but pickaxes will require a certain mining level before you can use it. Perhaps, there are different ores you can mine? And these ores can be used for item crafting etc.. And the mining could be automated, you click on the ore you want to mine and it will say "23 minutes and 46 seconds until you have finished this mining job.". tl;dr, basically, I need some ideas on how the mining system will work and be created. Please offer me some. PM me any games that have a mining feature so I can see this as inspiration. Thanks! Well, personally I've seen this in many other rpgs and it has really been good. I was thinking maybe we could do something like the explorer's kit from D/P/P and on maps we could go into the underground and build hideouts and maybe even mine under there.
Honestly, reputationn shows nothing for a player. You could have high reputation and be themost mean spririted person on creed or the otheer way around.

I think there should be a mining area where we can mine different kind of rocks and ores and the rocks and ores could be traded for different stuffs.well in the mining area there should be a button like "mine" when we click it it should start mining and different rocks or ores should be found in different mining areas.THATS MY IDEA.THANK YOU :D

Mining - How should it be done? Any ideas?
In maps, we have two types of caves, dark cave and ice cave. by orienteering maybe we can unlock other types of caves? these caves can be used to mine for ores and minerals. the type of cave will also affect mining. in original pokemon games, you could change floor by moving over a hole with ladder. so, in cave maps, on the ground floor, we would be able to catch pokemon. when we will move over that ladder hole, we will reach underground floor 1,where we can move around without encountering pokemon(or maybe we can). to mine, we need to have pickaxe equipped. when we will move, it will work in same way as itemfinder. the messages will be:this spot looks ideal for mining. would you like to dig here?. we will have button which says "dig here". then, we will get another message "you used your X pickaxe and dug out ____". and there will be a definite number of spots on each floor, which will be determined when player comes to the floor. the staircase to lower floors will be there hidden in the mining spots. so to get down, you need to dig out the stairs(the position of stairs will be in a random mining spot). there can be a lot of floors, maybe 250? and each pickaxe will have its limits.
there will be 5 types of pickaxes 1. normal pickaxe, which can be bought from dept. store. 2. copper pickaxe, which can be prepared by crafting copper(can be dug out) and normal pickaxe. 3. silver pickaxe, which can be prepared by crafting silver with copper pickaxe 4. golden pickaxe, which can be prepared by crafting silver pickaxe and gold. 5. glowing pickaxe, which can be prepared by crafting mysterious glowing item with golden pickaxe 6. legendary pickaxe, which can be prepared by crafting glowing pickaxe with some item(i am out of ideas, think this one yourself lol) and like i said, pickaxes will have their limits. they could be used to dig only a certain number of spots, because then the player gets exhausted. the better the pickaxe, the less stamina it uses. if you don't like my complete idea, then you can use parts of it. sorry for it not being in proper english, typed it in a hurry. oh yeah, the further you go, the darker it gets, so you need a torch, and also need to change batteries from time to time. and different caves will give different items? i will post effects of different caves and items obtainable later. Edit- Thanks Boricha and husky for agreeing with me. (Note : they agree only the part above. not with the part below) About cave effects- I can't really think of any special cave effects, except that you will get different items in different caves. Item list-(I can't think much items, ask people to suggest items for mining) 1. Copper(used to improve your pickaxe) 2. Silver(used to improve your pickaxe) 3. Gold(same as above) 4. Glowing Gem(used to improve your pickaxe) 5. Iron 6. Flintstones 7. Fossil parts 8. Random Pokemon I thought that although it is not a part of what you are asking, but you can add stamina, or replace mining and woodcutting with it. The better the tools, the less stamina you use. When you run out of stamina, you can't mine/cut wood until it gets restored. You will start with 100 stamina, and when you run out of stamina and rejuvenate, your total stamina will increase by 5(or any other value). Although I think my idea is good, from your perspective, it would be hard for you to edit current map system. I think my idea would go well with orienteering, and if you add woodcutting in future, people can use maps for it too. They can use forest, time forest etc where while walking, if they have axe equipped, they will get message(in same way as itemfinder), while walking, you found a log, would you like to chop it? then you would have to click button which says "yes" or something else like "chop the log". Also, axe could be upgraded in same way as Pickaxe.

- I was thinking doing it Minecraft style, with the several ores that become more common the more you mine downward, and requiring a certain pickaxe to mine out ores, such as you need a Stone Pickaxe to mine Iron Ore, or an Iron Pickaxe to mine Diamond Ore, and you need to smelt the ores into ingots before they can be used to purchase things or trade with. (More pickaxes, pokemon, the like...)

Tbh Da Man I was thinking the exact same thing as you. Also, maybe if you get a certain amount of ores you could buy exclusive items from Mart Co. or the Department store.

i like complans idea but then youll have to have higher crafting levels to make the higher tier pickaxes. but in a what it might help getting crafting lvl's go up as well. so all in all its a good idea

in your house just like the farming and crafting only with a special slot for the pickaxe and then other slots(same amount as the farming etc) perhaps an idea? or else put a mining area in the maps like in the viridian forest area the pit with the trees can easily be used as a mining area?

Well there are maps which include caves so i think there should be pickaxe selling in mart.co and dept store for money and coins and we shoul be able to mine with pickaxe then we can mine out different coloured stones which can farthered trade for something i dont know yr choice Da Man

I think that the mining feature should include being able to sell the ores for various prices. Sold for maybe coins, or cash, maybe even points. I don't know. xD Just an idea

I do like complanboy's idea about the possibility of getting fossil parts when mining. This could lead to another feature (not sure if it is implemented or not) where if you get enough fossil parts you could put it in a fossil restoration machine (possibly made from ores) and then make fossil pokemon (or other pokemon). There could even be ancient, cursed, luminous, golden, shadow, rainbow and shiny fossil parts, and when you make the pokemon using all a/c/l/g/sh/r/sy fossil parts, you could get that effect pokemon from it. ^.^

Maybe after mining the ores to can get special rocks out of them, which later you can trade in for maybe coins, cash or even colored pokemons.
