I think that in the maps if you find a wild Pokemon that you already have, their should be something to indicate that you already have said Pokemon. That way players wont have to waste their pokeballs just to find out they already had it.

You could just right-click "Your Pokemon" on the right side and click on in a new tab... Then look for it there.
Pokeballs are quite cheap to most players though. It shouldn't matter that much. |

I agree with LOTIO, and most map pokemon you could get from the random swaps anyway.
