You cannot battle with pokemons in maps.

You can battle People in the NPC Fights, or the Mysterious trainer located in your town then Dark Alley.
You can also battle other real players, by visiting their profile. To catch Pokemon, get some Poke Balls from the Mart. Co, then go to maps and keep searching. |
